Using a perfect mix of rock, blues, jazz, soul and even a little bit of country, Eryn Shewell introduces her music to us. Her debut album is filled with strong compositions, songs with catchy hooks and strong melodies. And not only that, she possesses the perfect voice to bring those songs to us. A voice that reminds us of the debuts of Joss Stone and Susan Tedeschi. We then also told you, "This girl is gonna get far"...and were we right both times? Well, we dare to say the same thing about Eryn Shewell. Maybe it will be a little more difficult for her, because there is no major record company to promote her, but with the mouth to mouth publicity she gets from the strong live performances she and her strong band bring us, her name will be known in no time. From her hometown, Asbury Park in New Jersey to New Orleans and beyond, she performed in the most important clubs and everywhere the audiences go wild. The songs on this CD are all strong and from the second time you hear them, they stay... it's difficult to get them out of your head again. But who cares? Songs that are waiting to get played on the radio too. Eryn's voice is so strong and flexible, filled with a lot of soul. From high to low, from a whisper to a scream, she brings it without the least of effort. Those are the signs of a real class singer. Others have noticed this too, because she is a much sought after backing vocalist, recently even on Walter "Wolfman" Washington's latest CD. A song like "I Don't Know" is a good example of her songwriter qualities, just like the strong "The Lonely Writer" (that guitar!) or the funky, jazzy sounding "Window Pane," in which her voice reminds me a lot of Joss Stone. The quiet "One Song at a Time" has a bluesy feel to it. What a great, soulfull song this is! Whatever song we chose they are all "winners". "Just One of Those Days" even has some country influences, which could easily make it big on Nashville radios. She has been compared with Jewel and Martina Mc Bride in some press articles, and we can understand why. The closing song, the wonderfully sung "I Wan't You For Breakfast" shows it: this girl knows what she wants and she will get it!  Let us hope it is "success," because that is what she really deserves.

Via een geslaagde mix van rock, blues, jazz, soul, en zelfs een klein beetje country laat Eryn Shewell ons kennismaken met haar muziek. Haar debuut bevat sterke composities, nummers met catchy hooks en sterke melodieën. En niet alleen dat, ze beschikt over een perfecte stem om die songs te brengen. Een stem die ons doet terugdenken aan de debuut cd's van Joss Stone of Susan Tedeschi. Toen ook hoorden we al dadelijk, deze meiden gaan het ver brengen, en dat deden ze ondertussen ook. Wel van deze Eryn Shewell durven wij hetzelfde beweren. Ze zal het wat moeilijker krijgen omdat ondertussen de steun van grotere platenfirma’s zo goed als onbestaande geworden is, maar haar live optredens met haar sterke band zorgen er via mond aan mondreclame wel voor dat haar naam stilaan doordringt. Van het thuisfront, Ashbury Park ( ze komt uit New Jersey) tot in het verre New Orleans stond ze in de grootste clubs en overal liet ze een laaiend enthousiast publiek achter. De songs op deze cd zijn dan ook niet zomaar wat probeersels, maar sterke songs, die reeds vanaf de tweede beluistering blijven haken. Je krijgt ze nog moeilijk uit je hoofd. Het zijn songs die ernaar vragen om op de betere radiostations gedraaid te worden. Haar stem is krachtig en flexibel, vol soul. Van hoog naar laag, van fluisterend tot explosief, ze kan het zonder verpinken aan, en dat zijn de tekenen van een grote zangeres. Dat hebben ook anderen begrepen want ze was tot nu toe ook een veel gevraagde backingzangeres, onlangs nog bij Walter "Wolfman" Washington voor diens nieuwste release. Een song als "I Don't Know" is zo een voorbeeld van haar sterke songwriters kwaliteiten. Zo is er eveneens de sterke song "The Lonely Writer" of het funky, jazzy klinkende titelnummer "Window Pane", waar haar stem wel erg dicht aanleunt bij die van Joss Stone. In het ingetogen "One Song At A Time" is het dan weer de bluesy sfeer die de overhand neemt. Wat een prachtige, gevoelige song is dit! Welk titel we er ook nog uit lichten, allen hebben ze hun kwaliteiten. "Just One Of Those Days" is zelfs wat country, en zou het op een van de Nashville radiostations onmiddellijk kunnen maken.Vergelijkingen met Jewel en Martina Mc Bride werden ook reeds gemaakt in de vakpers. Afsluiter, het ondeugende "I Want You For Breakfast", laat het je al merken: deze meid wil duidelijk wat ze wil en ze zal het krijgen ook. Laat ons hopen dat het “succes” is, want dat verdient ze dubbel en dwars.
